the boring but important page

Privacy Policy

You are about to tell us your age, who you are into and how you like your steak. Here is exactly what we do with that, in plain English.

Who we are

The Meet Market runs in-person dating events in the United States. This policy covers the-meet-market.com and the applications, waitlists and forms on it. Questions, or anything you want deleted, go to annie@the-meet-market.com.

What we collect

When you apply to an event: your name, email, cell number, zip code and age. What you are, who you are into, and what you are on the market for. The optional fun ones — how you like your steak, how you spend a weekend, and your best tweet. A photo, if you upload one.

For the campus series: your school and program alongside the basics above.

If you join a waitlist or apply for a job: your name, email and whichever night or role you picked.

Automatically, when you browse: pages you visited, where you arrived from, your device and browser, a rough location from your IP address, and any campaign tags on the link you clicked.

What we never see: your card. Payment happens on Posh's checkout. Card numbers never touch our servers.

Why we collect it

To decide who is in the room and where they sit. Age, city, who you are into and what you are looking for are what we use to build a balanced guest list — that is the whole product, and it is why the application asks.

To reach you: the invitation, the waitlist update, and the text with the venue 24 hours before the doors open.

To work out which events people like and where our guests hear about us, so we stop spending money in the places that do not work.

Gender and orientation

We ask what you are and who you are into because a dating event does not function without it. We use those answers to balance the room and to seat people. We do not publish them, sell them, or share them with anyone outside the services listed below, and we do not use them to turn anyone away.

Your photo

A photo is optional on the main application. We use it to build the room and to know who is walking through the door.

Being straight with you about how it is stored: your photo lives at its own unlisted web address. We do not publish it, link to it, or put it anywhere people can browse — but anyone who had that exact address could open it. Treat it the way you would treat an unlisted link. If you would rather we did not hold one, email us and we will delete it.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data, and we never have. We use a short list of outside services to actually run the thing:

  • Supabase — the database and photo storage.
  • Google Sheets — the working guest list we review applications in.
  • Resend (and Gmail as a backup) — sending you email.
  • PostHog and Vercel — hosting, and understanding how the site is used.
  • Posh — tickets and payment. What you enter on their checkout is also covered by their privacy policy.
  • Meta and TikTok — advertising measurement, so we can tell which ads actually bring people to an event. See the next section.

We would also hand something over if the law genuinely required it, or if we had to in order to keep someone safe.

Cookies and advertising

We use cookies and similar storage for two things: keeping the site working, and measuring what happens on it.

We also use advertising pixels from Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and TikTok. These let us see that someone who clicked one of our ads went on to apply or buy a ticket, and let those platforms show our ads to people more like our guests. Under California law this counts as “sharing” your information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

You can turn most of this off with your browser's tracking protections, your ad settings on each platform, or a Global Privacy Control signal. You can also just email us and ask us to stop, and we will.

The guest list stays shut

We do not release the attendee list after an event. Not to guests, not to sponsors, not to anyone. That is a deliberate part of how our nights work, and it is also a promise about your data: the person you did not talk to does not get your details afterwards, and neither does anybody else.

How long we keep it

As long as we are running events you might want to come to. If you ask us to delete you, we will, and we will keep only what we have to for tax and accounting records of a ticket you actually bought.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of what we hold on you, ask us to fix it, ask us to delete it, or tell us to stop emailing you. If you are in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia or a state with a similar law, you also have the right to opt out of the advertising sharing described above and the right not to be treated differently for using any of these rights.

One email to annie@the-meet-market.com does all of it. No form, no account required. We will come back to you within 45 days and usually a lot sooner.

Security, honestly stated

Your information sits in access-controlled services and moves over encrypted connections. That said, nobody can promise perfect security, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. If something ever went wrong in a way that affected you, we would tell you.

Age

Our events are 21 and over. The site is not for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect anything from them. If you think a minor has sent us something, email us and it comes straight out.

Changes

If we change what we collect or who we share it with, we will update this page and the date at the top. If the change is a significant one, we will email people on our list rather than quietly editing it.
